Asbestos is a naturally occurring mineral found in the ground. It contains strong fibres that have excellent durability, fire resistance and insulating properties.

Asbestos can affect your health if fibres are breathed into the lungs. Most fibres are removed by your body’s natural defences, however, some fibres can remain in the lungs. This can have serious implications on health.

Disposing of materials containing asbestos at North Burnett Regional Council Waste Management Facilities:

Contact Council’s Environmental Health department 24 hours prior to disposal.

  1. Material containing asbestos is to be double wrapped in black HDPE plastic 2mm thick.
  2. If the amount of material containing asbestos is over 10m a transporter is required to have a class B licence.

North Burnett Regional Council Waste Management Facilities that accept asbestos are located at Monto and Mundubbera.

For further information refer to North Burnett Regional Council’s website, call Council’s Environmental Health team on 1300 696 272 (1300 MY NBRC) or email Council.
