Speed limit to be reduced at Lochaber Creek Bridge on Burnett Highway

Jul 24, 2018 | Front Page Feature, News

The Department of Transport and Main Roads has advised that the speed limit on the Burnett Highway at the Lochaber Creek Bridge, south of Eidsvold, will be reduced to 60km/h later this week to protect the structure.

This bridge carries a lot of freight traffic and a speed reduction is needed to reduce the impact of heavy vehicles travelling across it.  Works to build a stronger and wider concrete bridge are expected to start later this year and be finished by mid-next year, weather permitting.  The new bridge will greatly improve access on the highway for heavy vehicles moving freight across the state.

New speed reduction signs will be installed at both approaches to the bridge.  All motorists are urged to look out for the new signs and be aware of the changed conditions.
