Mayor celebrates commitment to Cooranga Weir

Council and Boyne River irrigators celebrate the news that the Queensland LNP has committed $25 million towards building the long awaited Cooranga weir.

“We have been advocating for over 40 years to increase water security along the Boyne River” Mayor Chambers said.

“We have followed due process and have completed the studies and have the business case, now we need backing by the State Government to get this important piece of infrastructure built.

“We seek a commitment that construction of the Cooranga Weir will commence in the next term of government, which will also require the co-operation of the Federal Government, as further funding is needed to make this project a reality.”

“Water is the key economic enabler to our region and knows no local government boundaries and I am delighted that the Queensland LNP is committing to take action on improving our states water security.”
“I look forward to a commitment from the Palaszczuk government on building important water infrastructure in the North Burnett.”
