Betterment projects progressed

Nov 2, 2018 | Front Page Feature, News

North Burnett Regional Council’s 2017 Natural Disaster Relief and Recovery Arrangements (NDRRA) funded Betterment Projects are one step closer to finalisation with the completion of the Airport Road Betterment Project, Mayor Rachel Chambers has advised.

“The project, one of ten projects approved through North Burnett Regional Council’s 2017 Betterment program consists of road construction and road protection works, including a concrete apron and rock protection, to increase resilience in future rain events and subsequent water inundation,” Mayor Chambers said.

Council received $5.3M funding to undertake eligible Betterment works through the joint Commonwealth-State NDRRA program.  Works commenced in April 2018, incorporating ten (10) projects and fifteen (15) assets. The overall program is scheduled for completion in April 2019, weather permitting.

“To date, six out of the ten projects have been completed, with works accomplished through a combination of council labour and contractors.”

Mayor Rachel Chambers thanked both the Australian and Queensland governments for this funding, and acknowledged that the funding has allowed Council to complete works which will improve the overall resilience to flooding.

To keep up to date on the progress of these works see Council’s website, Facebook and fortnightly ‘North Burnett News’ in the CNBT.
