Be involved. Lead the Way.

Queensland Women’s Week recognises and celebrates the achievements of Queensland’s women and girls. Everyone has a role to play in creating a supportive and inclusive environment where women and girls can succeed. This year Queensland Women’s Week celebrations will be held from 6 to 12 March with the theme: Queensland Women: Be involved. Lead the way.  The theme aims to encourage women and girls to participate, and pursue leadership roles, in their community and workplace.

As part of the 2017 Queensland Women’s Week celebrations and in conjunction with the ‘North Burnett Leading Ladies Learnings’ project, North Burnett Regional Council’s Acting Mayor, Councillor Faye Whelan will be visiting High Schools in the North Burnett region to address female students in Years 10-12.

In partnership with North Burnett High Schools, Councillor Whelan will visit schools to present an engaging, positive and inspiring talk with female students about her personal experiences, career challenges and life journey. To augment the message of Women’s Week, each Year 10-12 student will receive a goals journal, which will include motivational quotes, goal setting tips, etc.

“The project aims to demonstrate career and leadership opportunities in influential and high position roles for women, will inspire young women to look beyond what is traditionally and locally available, and to aim high,” Cr Faye Whelan said.
