Australia Day is the perfect opportunity for residents of the North Burnett to come together to celebrate what's great about Australia and being Australian. It's a day for reflection on our achievements and taking pride in our great nation. It's the day for us to re-commit to making Australia an even better place for the future.

The North Burnett Regional Council will be holding Australia Day Celebrations throughout the region, so come and join us on Tuesday, 26 January for an Aussie breakfast and congratulate our Australia Day Award winners!

Mayor Don Waugh said, "We are fortunate to be able to hold an Australian Citizenship Ceremony in conjunction with the 2016 Australia Day Celebrations.  An Australian Citizenship Ceremony celebrates our nation's identity and represents commitment to Australia and its people and is a common bond which unites all Australians while respecting our diversity".

"Bring your family, friends and neighbours and help celebrate what makes our nation great!"

"We are also honoured that Major James Campbell DFC (Ret), Foundation Member, CEO and Chief Pilot of the first Community Search, Rescue and Medical Evacuation Helicopter Service in Queensland and Australia Day Ambassador - Queensland will be attending celebrations in the North Burnett", Cr Waugh said.

During our Australia Day Celebrations, we invite residents to participate in an Australian Citizenship Affirmation ceremony. The words of the Affirmation are based on the pledge made by new Australian citizens. These words express the values that Australians share and that make our country the fantastic place it is today. Reciting the Australian Citizenship Affirmation on Australia Day articulates our common commitment to our country, no matter what our personal reasons are for being a proud Australian.
