(10-03-17) Young residents and families to benefit from playground upgrades in Monto

Mar 10, 2017 | Front Page Feature, News

Young Monto residents will benefit from the installation of new playground equipment at local parks over the last few months which have incorporated a greater range of play equipment and safety features.

Acting Mayor, Cr Faye Whelan advised that the community needs and expectations have changed since many of the playgrounds in the region were built and that it was important to not only ensure existing facilities remain safe and accessible, but to plan for the next stage in their life.

Lions Park, Monto, has seen the installation of a birds nest and sash swings together with rubberised soft fall funded by a successful Gambling Community Benefit Fund (GCBF) application submitted by the Monto Lions Club. The birds nest swing provides opportunities for integrated play as well as providing a bonding opportunity for smaller children and parents as they swing together.

Close to the existing skate park in Monto, a new play tower has been installed at Jaycee Park. Aimed at younger children, the new equipment features a slippery slide, rope climbing net, ladder, rock climbing platform and fireman’s pole. A set of swings which includes a toddler seat has also been installed.  Nearby, a Saturn Carousel has been installed to thrill children of all ages (and of course their parents too!)  The carousel goes around as well as up and down and is guaranteed to leave you feeling dizzy.  North Burnett Regional Council aims to develop a more ‘family friendly’ park at this location, with ‘something for everyone’.  This project has been funded through Council’s 2016/17 Capital Budget for playground upgrades.
